Website relaunch with Koken CMS

Over the years I collected many pictures and videos of my trips to foreign countries. The management of these media was getting harder and more and more time consuming. After a short test drive of Joomla, WordPress and Koken I decided to make a relaunch of my website with Koken.

Koken Advantages and Disadvantages

Experiences with Koken while migrating the content of the website:
Advantages Disadvantages
  • Easy to install and to update
  • Easy to learn
  • Works (most time) as expected
  • Excellent user interface which feels like almost a desktop application
  • Excellent media/asset management with albums and set of albums to organize media
    • EXIF support for image files
    • Categories and tags for images and videos
    • Resizing of images
    • Drag and drop support for assets
    • Searching, sorting and filtering
  • Blog functionality called "Essays"
  • Easy way to customize the CSS and to create a own theme
  • Compared to Wordpress or Joomla less functionality and lesser available plugins
  • Early version, currently version 0.19 available
  • No multilanguage support
  • No subcategories, just one level categories
  • No user management, just one administrative account
